I recently got a new shelter from Locus Gear of Japan. It’s a one person shelter with a semi solid inner covering half the foot print. In this way I will get good protection from cold drafts and also a vestibule for storing wet gear and cooking in foul weather.
First impressions are very good. Craftsmanship live up to the hype. This is the Khufu CTF-B, that means that the whole tent is taped together. Only seams are along the zipper, and these are then bonded with cuben tape. Compared to the UltaMid I have been using the last two years this is at least of the same quality.
The inner attaches easy on the inside but as always its hard to get a good stretch on it. Regarding the clearance there is no problem what so ever, at least 10 cm all around.
The tent weighs in at 330 g with pack bag and the inner is 300g. Together with 8 pegs it sums up to almost exactly 700g. Very nice for shelter this size that will hold up good against weather and wind.
Material in the inner looks very nice, the red color is really strong. White walls are very easy to see through so if you plan stay at camps and want som privacy I would recommend something darker. The silnylon is super slippery so I will have to add some seam sealing to the floor to avoid ice skating night time.

Hej, kollar själv på ett Khufu alternativt Hapi för 2p men är lite orolig att dem är för korta (187 cm lång) då LG främst säljer till japanska kunder. Är Khufu rymlig? Allmänna intryck än så länge?

Jag skulle nog säga att du ligger på gränsen. Det hänger ju förstås lite på vad du använder för liggunderlag osv. Men Khufu är lagom stor för mej på 178 cm.
Ett alternativ är om du ber Yoshida göra ett lite längre tält åt dej. Som jag förstått det gör han specialmått på tälten i silnylon. Innertältet är specialbeställt av mej.

Great mid, I’m just about to buy one myself but am interested in your inner mesh modifications, is the extra sidings added to retain more heat?
When I enquired Locus said they only do very small mods on inners but not so with yours.

The solid wall extensions are added to stop draft from chilly winds that gets under the main fly. This is mostly a problem if you are going to places with cold, strong winds. The drawback of solid walls is that the circulation in your inner tent can get too low and thus you will start to get heavy condensation.
I hade no problem ordering my custom inner from LG and know others after me that have bought similar designs. If LG for some reason have stopped taking custom orders i can recommend Oookworks, I talked to Sean there about a custom inner for my Khufu and I’m pretty sure it would have been a good solution. A small warning is in order regarding Oookworks track record of problems with delivery in time. But as I understand Sean is in better order nowadays and orders are delivered in time.
The outer fly is in black cuben fiber with red zippers. The inner is red nylon with white walls.

I’m also surprised that your inner modifications add no more weight than the usual full mesh weight of 300g, that’s good to hear.
One of my detractions from any mods would be extra weight, so your experience is a positive outcome.

Hi Julia. I haven’t measured but I would guess the walls are around 50 cm from the bathtub floor. Higher walls would reduce the air circulation to much for me.
